Indra mother bhadrakali got worried about him and she visited Kathmandu looking for him. As the locals realized they captured indra himself, they were appalled and immediately released him. As the reward for his release, mother bhadrakali promised to provide enough dew throughout the winter to ensure a rich crop. It is said that Kathmandu started to experience foggy mornings from this festival onwards.

Opening Ceremony

Indra Jatra opening ceremony begins with the raising of Yosin (a ceremonial pole) in Kahmandu Durbar Square, which is symbolized the beginning of the festival. The pole is; wrapped with colorful cloth and traditional offerings. The act is not merely a physical rising of the pole it is imbued with the spiritual significance, making the arrival of indra and inviting him for next year to come.
